When I think of Psych, I think about “becoming an adult.” This might sound weird considering the show is so brilliantly funny and completely silly, but that’s what comes to mind. I started watching Psych when I was like 20 or 21. It was right around the time I met a girl named Annie Baker. She had the pilot of this new show called Psych on her iPod and would watch it every night. So I started watching it because I had a crush on her. I then immediately fell in love with the show. Oh…and Annie too.
Annie and I now live together and all these years later we still watch Psych. Like, a lot. We watch all the new episodes as they air, when ION Television does their late night marathons, and on Netflix, as well. We often get drunk and watch it for hours and hours. We love that show.
When I met Annie, we were both really young, we both didn’t really know who we were and we both had a bunch of dreams. And 7 years later (this coming Monday), we’ve become adults. We also kinda know who are now. And we are VERY close to accomplishing those dreams.
And throughout all of it…we’ve had Psych. It’s been one of the few constants we’ve had in our lives for nearly a decade. I’d like to think it’s one of the influences that’s shaped us into who we have become. It’s ABSOLUTELY influenced our personalities, the movies we make and the way we talk. Hell, Shawn, Gus, Jules and Lassie have been our BFF’s longer than most of our REAL BFF’s.
I’m obviously bummed to see the show end, but it’s actually kind of cool. Just as Psych started, this “becoming an adult” period of my life began. And now that I feel like an adult, the show is ending. The perfect length for a series I once feared would get canceled at any moment.
Annie and I will still watch Psych reruns regularly. Shawn, Gus, Jules and Lassie will be in our lives forever. And whenever we watch the show, I’ll think of my 20s. These were the best years of my life and mostly because Annie and I had Psych to watch every week xoxo
