Music Metadata

Music Metadata is a local Mac tool for adding album details and cover artwork directly to MP3 files. I built it because editing songs in Apple Music wasn’t updating my original MP3s. That's right. I embed the artwork of my albums using Apple Music. It's a real sophisticated system I've got running over here.

It opens in the browser, where I can load a folder, enter the album details, choose a cover, and edit each song’s title, track number, or artist credit. It reads existing tags and suggests titles and numbers from filenames when they’re missing. Track artists follow the album artist unless I give a song its own credit, so it also works for releases with guest artists or compilations.

Saving writes the tags and artwork into the selected MP3s without re-encoding the audio or renaming the files. The WAVs stay untouched, and all the music and artwork processing happens on the Mac. It updates the MP3s in place, with results for each file and no undo history. The source is available on GitHub under an MIT license, with instructions for running it on a Mac with Python 3.9 or newer.
